Govatsa Dwadashi Katha

In ancient times, there was a city named Suvarnapur in India. Where a king named Devdani ruled. He had two queens named Sita and Geeta. Sita was fond of buffalo and Geeta was fond of cow. After a few days, Geeta’s cow gave birth to a beautiful calf. The calf and the cow started getting a lot of love from everyone. This made the king’s queen Sita and the buffalo jealous.

Out of jealousy, Sita cut the calf and buried it in the pile of wheat. After a while, when the king sat down to eat, it started raining meat and blood from the sky. The king’s plate got soaked in blood. Seeing this, the king got worried and he realized that someone had committed a big sin in his kingdom for which the whole kingdom was going to be punished.

After praying to God, the king heard a voice from the sky, Rajan! Your queen has cut the newborn baby of the cow and buried it in the pile of wheat due to which this crisis has come in your kingdom. To overcome this crisis, you will have to worship the cow and calf on Govatsa Dwadashi. You will have to observe a fast on this day and eat only once a day. Remember that wheat should not be used in the food on this day and neither should a knife be used. According to the Akashvani (voice from the sky), the king along with the queens worshipped the mother cow and her calf, due to which the sins of the queen were destroyed. Also, due to the effect of the fast, her dead calf became alive again.
