Somvati Amavasya Story

According to Somvati Amavasya’s story fast, there was a poor Brahmin family, there was a husband, a wife, and a daughter in that family. As time passed, their daughter slowly started growing up. With increasing age, all the feminine qualities were developing in that daughter. That girl was beautiful, cultured, and talented, but due to being poor, she was not able to get married. One day a sage king came to that Brahmin’s house.

The sage was extremely pleased with the girl’s spirit of service. The sage blessed the girl with a long life and said that this girl did not have a marriageable line in her hand. Then the Brahmin couple asked the sage for a solution, what should the girl do so that she can get married? After thinking for some time, Sadhu Maharaj told with his insight that a washerwoman named Sona lived in a village a short distance away. She lives with her son and daughter-in-law, who are very well-behaved and devoted to their husbands.

If this Sukanya serves that washerman and that woman applies vermillion of her demand on his marriage and after that, this girl gets married, then the possibility of this girl getting married can be erased. The monk also said that the woman does not go out anywhere. Hearing this, the Brahmin proposed her daughter to serve as a washerman. The very next day, the girl woke up early in the morning, went to the gold washerman’s house, did the cleaning and all the other work, and started returning home.

One day the gold washerman asks her daughter-in-law, “You get up in the morning and do all the work and you don’t even realize it.” The daughter-in-law said – Mother, I had thought that you would wake up in the morning and finish all the work. I wake up late. Knowing all this, both mother-in-law and daughter-in-law started monitoring the house to find out who was the one who went away after doing all the household work in the morning.

After several days, the washerman saw a girl coming into the house in the dark with her face covered and leaving after doing all the work. When she started to leave, Sona the washerwoman fell at her feet and said, “Who are you and why do you do my household work secretly like this?” Then the girl told everything that the sage had said. Sona the washerman was devoted to her husband, which is why she was stunning. She agreed, the washerwoman’s husband was a little unwell. He asked his daughter-in-law to stay at home until he returned.

As soon as Sona Dhobin applied the vermillion of her maang on the girl’s maang, Sona Dhobin’s husband died. They came to know about this. She left the house without water, thinking that if she found a Peepal tree somewhere on the way, she would drink water only after pouring water on it and circling it. That day was Somvati Amavasya. In place of the pua-dish found at the Brahmin’s house, he circled the Peepal tree 108 times with pieces of brick and then drank the water. As soon as she did this, her husband’s dead body came alive. The washerman’s husband came alive again.
