Shani Amavasya Significance 

According to astrology, Shani Amavasya provides relief from the negative effects of Saturn’s Sadesati and Dhaiya. According to ancient texts, it is very easy to please Shani Dev on the day of Shani Amavasya because this day is most dear to him.

Shani Amavasya Puja Vidhi and Rituals

  • On the day of Shani Amavasya, wake up early in the morning and take bath after removing all the things from your bed.
  • If the river around you is sacred then the vendors should take bath there. If this is not possible then add a few drops of Ganga water in water and take bath.
  • After this, worship in the home temple as per the rituals. After puja, perform aarti and also light a lamp.
  • After this, Arghya should be offered to the Sun God.
  • Then go to the temple of Shani Dev located near the house and light a lamp and apply mustard oil on it.

Shani Amavasya Story

According to the stories described in various Puranas, Sun God had two wives and a shadow. She was the daughter of Lord Vishnu. When she got married to Sun God, she was unable to bear the brightness of the sun. One day Devi brought her clone Chhaya and asked him to stay at her place. The abode of Chhaya, wife of Surya Dev. On the other hand, a place to roam as a horse on one’s own land. Not even the shadow of the Sun God’s glory is visible. One day when Suryadev came to Chhaya with the desire of attaining the status of a saint, seeing his fast movement, Chhaya’s complexion turned black and he became confused. Lord Dev was born as the son of Chhaya.

The day Shanidev was born was Saturday and Dhan Tithi. Shani religious philosophy holds special importance. Seeing Shanidev, Suryadev became angry because his complexion was black. Sun God said that this cannot be my son. After this, Surya Dev also came to know that a shadow was living in his wife’s house for a long time. Knowing this truth, Surya Dev became angry and set out in search of Shanidev’s first wife to cure him.

When Shanidev grew up, he himself made Suryadev even more influential and started doing penance for Lord Shiva. Pleased with the penance of Shani Dev, Lord Shiva gave Shani Dev the post of judge and magistrate as a sign. Lord Shiva also glorified it, O Saturn, giving it a royal place and respect among the nine planets. None of the three men will escape real justice. You will evaluate all things by looking at their actions. Shanidev, who was adorned by Lord Shiva, became a temple among the nine planets and was worshipped.
