Why Is Ram Navami Celebrated?

On the ninth day of Shulk Paksha of Chaitra month, Lord Vishnu, the sustainer of the universe, was born on earth in the form of Shri Ram. The holy day of Ram Lala’s birth is celebrated as the festival of Ram Navami. Lord Vishnu was born in the house of King Dashrath of Ayodhya and appeared in front of mere mortals in his seventh incarnation. Shri Ram was born as the eldest son of the country’s great kings Dasharatha and Kaushalya. The birthday of Shri Ram, who taught the world the lessons of dignity, simplicity, goodness, patience, and good behavior, is celebrated as Ram Navami.

What Is The History Of Ram Navami?

Maryada Purushottam Shri Ram was born in the Suryavanshi Kshatriya dynasty of Ayodhya on the ninth date of Shukla Paksha of Chaitra month on the Cancer ascendant of Punarvasu Nakshatra. According to the scriptures, King Dasharatha had 3 wives and all three had no children. Due to not being able to get the happiness of having a child, the king and his queens had nothing despite having everything.

To enjoy the happiness of having a child, King Dasharatha surrendered himself to Maharishi Vashishtha, where he was advised to perform a yagya. The Yagya was performed by Maharishi Rishi Shringi so that King Dashrath could have a child. As a result of the Yagya, all three wives of King Dasharatha became pregnant, out of which Queen Kaushalya gave birth to Shri Ram.

Born to King Dasharatha from the womb of Mother Kaushalya, Shri Ram was born to destroy sinners from the earth, end evil, and break the shackles of discrimination. Lord Vishnu had taken the form of Lord Rama in the mortal world itself. The festival of Ram Navami has been celebrated by the followers of Sanatan Dharma for the last several thousand years. The day of Ram Navami marks the birth of Lord Rama as well as the conclusion of Chaitra Navratri of Maa Durga.
