Phalguna Purnima Importance

The full moon date of Phalgun month has been given great importance in the scriptures. On this day Hiranyakashyap tried to burn his son Prahlad in fire. But by the grace of Lord Shri Hari, Prahlad was saved and his aunt Holika got burnt. Keeping fast on this day brings good fortune. Worshiping Moon God in the evening on the day of the full moon also provides relief from Chandra Dosh. By this, all the wishes of the seeker are fulfilled.

Falguna Purnima Vrat Katha

There are many stories of Falguna Purnima but the story given in Narad Purana is considered very important. The story given in the Narada Purana is the story of the burning of the demon king Hiranyakashipu and his sister the demon Holika.

According to legend, Hiranyakashipu sent his eldest son, Prahlad, who was a devotee of Lord Vishnu, to his sister to bathe in the fire. But by the grace of Lord Vishnu, Holika got burnt to ashes and nothing happened to Prahlad. Therefore, it is believed that on the day of Phalguna Purnima, Holika should be made by collecting wood and when the auspicious time comes, Holika should be burnt properly.

Phalguna Purnima Puja Vidhi 

  • Take a bath in the holy river on the full moon day of March.
  • After this, wear clean clothes and meditate on Goddess Lakshmi and Lord Vishnu.
  • There is also a tradition of worshiping Lord Satyanaran on this day.
  • On the day of the full moon, a fast is observed from sunrise to moonrise.
  • Then in the evening, make kheer and offer it to Goddess Lakshmi and the Moon God.

Remedies for Phalguna Purnima

  • On the night of Falguna Purnima, offer 11 cowries to Goddess Lakshmi and the next day wrap them in red cloth and tie them on the main door. Due to this, negative energy is not able to enter the house.
  • If there is a delay in marriage etc. then offer 7 roses to Goddess Lakshmi. With this remedy, the wish of early marriage will be fulfilled.
  • If you have been suffering from any disease for a long time, then on the day of Phalguna Purnima, rotate camphor 7 times from head to toe of the patient and put it in the fire of Holika. Health is achieved through this remedy.
  • On the midnight of Phalguna Purnima, offer 21 cowries colored in turmeric to Goddess Lakshmi, and the next morning, tie them in a red cloth and keep them in the safe. With this, Goddess Lakshmi will always reside in the house.
  • While worshiping Holika on the day of Falguna Purnima, by offering kheer made of cow dung and garland to her, the house is always full of wealth.
  • Offering something sweet and water to the Peepal tree after taking a bath in the morning on the day of Phalguna Purnima increases the chances of progress in job and business.
