She is called Parvati because she is the daughter of the mountain king, she is called Maheshwari because she is the wife of Mahadev, and because of her fair complexion, she is worshiped by the name of Goddess Gauri. Mother loves her son more, hence mother likes to be addressed with her son’s name. Those devotees who worship this form of Mother Goddess, the Goddess showers love on them like her own son.
Skandmata herself is called Parvati, Maheshwari, and Gauri. The goddess was named Skandmata because she was the mother of Skandkumar. Skandamata form of Goddess is the destroyer of demons.
Once a terrible demon named Tarakasura did penance and asked Lord Brahma for the boon of invincible life so that he would never die. But when Brahma ji said that whoever has come into this world has to go one day or the other. So Tarakasura said that if he dies, it will be at the hands of Shiva’s son. Brahma said this will happen. Tarakasura thought that Shankar ji would never marry, nor would he ever have a son, nor would he ever die, but who can avoid it?
Tarakasura, considering himself invincible, started creating havoc in the world. Then all the gods ran to Lord Shankar and said, Lord! Tarakasura has created havoc in the entire universe. If you do not marry, Tarakasura cannot end. At the request of the gods, Shankar ji took physical form and married Parvati. A son was born to Shiva and Parvati, whose name was Kartikeya. Kartikeya’s name is also Skandkumar. Skandkumar saved the world from tyranny by killing Tarakasura. Goddess Parvati was named Skandamata because she was the Goddess of Skandkumar. If Skandmata is pleased then evil powers cannot do any harm to the devotees. By this worship of the Goddess, even impossible tasks become possible.
