In ancient times, a king named Vaikhanas ruled this land. His subjects were completely satisfied with him and he did not tolerate any kind of deficiency on their part. His rule was going very well and everything was going smoothly. Later, when the king was resting, he woke up and found his father suffering and tormented in hell, whom he immediately sentenced to death. She saw her father regularly pleading with her to save him from certain death. When he saw this he became distressed and lost his sleep.
The next morning, he woke up early and approached the pundits and told them everything that had happened in his dream the night before. After this, he inquired about the secret behind it. Commentators exclaimed, “O King!” This can be accomplished by visiting the ashram of a saint named Parvat and requesting a solution for the salvation of his father. A method suggested by the Brahmins was implemented by the king by traveling to the sage’s ashram and presenting his case to him.
After listening to the entire story, the mountain sage expressed concern and said – O king! Your father has reached hell as a result of his deeds in his previous birth. You should observe Mokshada Ekadashi’s fast in honor of your father and offer the fruit of your fast as Prasad to your father. By doing this they will be freed from the sins of their previous birth and will attain salvation.
As per the instructions of the sage, the king observed the fast of Mokshada Ekadashi and obtained his blessings by distributing food, Dakshina, and clothes among other things to the destitute. He attained salvation by imparting to his father the virtue gained from his fasting experience.
