Labh Pancham or Labh Panchami is celebrated on the fifth day of the Hindu calendar. Labh means ‘profit’ and ‘good luck’, and Pancham means ‘fifth’, in the Shukla Paksha of Kartik month. Labh Pancham is also known as ‘Lakhani Panchami’, ‘Gyan Panchami’, and ‘Saubhagya Panchami’. Labh Pancham usually falls a week after Kali Chaudas and five days after Diwali. On this day, devotees worship Lord Ganesha and Goddess Lakshmi and open their accounts on the auspicious day of Labh Panchami. 

Labh Pancham Meaning

The words Shubh and Labh play an important role during Labh Panchami celebrations. Shubh signifies auspiciousness while Labh signifies profit. Businessmen write Shubh and Labh on the first page of the book and draw a swastika between these two words. There is a tradition of visiting friends and relatives from the day of Diwali to Labh Pancham. It is also a time to renew the good relations between all of them. Sweets and other gifts are exchanged on Labh Pancham, which symbolizes the sweetness in the relations with each other.

Labh Pancham Puja vidhi

  • On the day of Saubhagya Panchami or Labh Panchami, wake up early in the morning, take a bath, wear red clothes, and offer water to the Sun God.

  • Then worship Lord Shiva and Lord Ganesha with sandalwood, flowers, Akshat, and Mauli in the auspicious time.

  • Offer Durva, Sindoor, and Modak to Lord Ganesha.

  • Offer Bhasma and Dhatura to Bholenath.

  • Offer lotus flowers, and white sweets to Goddess Lakshmi and chant the mantra” ऊँ श्रीं क्लीं महालक्ष्मी महालक्ष्मी एह्येहि सर्व सौभाग्यं देहि मे स्वाहा।।”

  • On the day of Labh Panchami, food, clothes, money or other essential things should also be donated to the poor and needy.
