The full moon day of Shukla Paksha of Jyeshtha month is called Jyeshtha Purnima. There is a belief in taking a bath in the holy river on the day of Jyeshtha Purnima. It is believed that by doing this all sins are destroyed. There is a tradition of worshiping and donating to ancestors on this day. Women worship Lord Shankar and Lord Vishnu on this day for their husband’s long life. Vat Purnima fast is also observed on this day. Jyeshtha Purnima is not only important for bathing, charity, etc., but this Purnima is also known for one special thing, that is that on this day Lord Bholenath starts the journey to Amarnath with Ganga water. On the day of Jyestha Purnima, one should wake up early in the morning, take a bath, etc., and wear clean clothes.

Then the Vaat tree (banyan tree) is worshiped and prayers are offered for the long life of the husband. It is believed that for the women who keep fast on Jyeshtha Purnima, all their wishes are fulfilled because on this day Savitri Mata observed this fast and brought her husband back from Yamraj, since then this fast is also called Vat Purnima.
After this, women wrap Mauli around the banyan tree and worship it with rituals by circling the banyan tree seven times.

According to the story, Goddess Savitri was born in the house of King Ashwapati. The king raised his daughter very well. When Savitri became young, the king started worrying about her marriage. King Ashwapati wanted Goddess Savitri to get a groom as per her wish. Therefore, he asked Goddess Savitri to choose the groom as per his wish. Savitri started traveling to select her groom.
One day Savitri’s eyes fell on a young man. Whose name was Satyavan. Savitri chose Satyavan as her husband in her heart. Sage Muni Narad ji came to know about Satyavan’s choice of groom. Narad ji told Savitri that her future husband would have a short life. Hearing this, Savitri said I am a Hindu woman. According to the Hindu religion, any person can choose her husband only once. Both Savitri and Satyavan married each other.
One day Satyavan was doing his work. Then he became unconscious and fell to the ground. Seeing this, Savitri came under the shade of the banyan tree and lay down in his lap. After some time, Savitri saw that Yamraj was taking away her husband’s life. She kept running behind Yamraj crying. Seeing this, Yamraj said that you can come only to the earth, not to the underworld. Hearing this, Savitri replied that Satyavan is my husband. A wife’s religion says that a wife should not leave her husband. Hearing this, Yamraj became happy and said that I cannot bring back your husband’s life. But you can ask for three boons from me. Savitri asked for the eyes of her mother-in-law and father-in-law in her first boon. In the second boon, she asked for her husband’s kingdom.
In the third boon, she asked for the boon of becoming the mother of Satyavan’s sons. Yamraj was surprised to hear this. In the third boon, Savitri cleverly got her husband’s life back. Yamraj had to return to Satyavan’s life. That is why a married woman observes this fast for the long life of her husband. Jyeshtha Purnima was falling on this day. That is why it is called Jyeshtha Purnima Vrat.

If you want to increase food and wealth in your family, then on the day of Jyeshtha Purnima, take 900 grams of gram pulses and touch it at the feet of Lord Satyanarayan. After this, donate that gram pulse to a worthy Brahmin.
If you want to keep your health healthy, then take some flour for Prasad on the day of Jyeshtha Purnima put it in a pan, and fry it in ghee. Also, some sugar should be added to it. In this way, your Prasad will be ready. Now add some pieces of banana to the prepared Prasad and offer it to God. After offering Bhog, distribute the remaining Prasad among your family members and small children outside.
If you want to always have the support of your family, then after taking a bath on the day of Jyeshtha Purnima, you should offer water to the Tulsi plant and meditate on Lord Satyanarayan. After this, take some wet soil from the Tulsi root and apply Tilak to all the family members and also apply Tilak on your forehead.
