The festival of Ganesh Chaturthi is celebrated with great pomp and joy throughout the country and there is a main reason hidden behind it. According to mythology, Lord Ganesha was born on the Chaturthi date of Shukla Paksha of Bhadrapada month and hence this day is celebrated as Ganesh Chaturthi. On the day of Lord Ganesha’s birth anniversary, people bring him to their homes and worship him with rituals.
According to the story of Ganesh Chaturthi, once before going for a bath, Mother Parvati created a beautiful child from the dirt of her body and named him Ganesh. Goddess Parvati ordered the Ganesh not to let anyone come inside, saying this Goddess Parvati went inside to take a bath. When Lord Shiva came there, the child stopped him from coming inside and said, my mother is taking a bath inside, you cannot go inside. Lord Shiv explained a lot to Ganeshji that Parvati is his wife. But Ganeshji did not agree, then Lord Shiv got very angry and cut Ganeshji’s neck with his trident and went inside. When Goddess Parvati saw Lord Shiv inside, she asked how did you come inside. I had come after making Ganesh sit outside. Then Lord Shiv said that I killed him. Then Parvati ji assumed the fierce form and said I will leave from here only when you bring my son back to life, otherwise not.
Lord Shiv tried a lot to convince goddess Parvati but Parvati ji did not agree. All the gods gathered and tried to persuade goddess Parvati but she did not agree. Then Lord Shiva asked Lord Vishnu to bring the head of a child whose mother was sleeping with her back towards her child. Lord Vishnu immediately ordered Garudaji to search for such a child and bring his neck immediately. After Garuda Ji searched a lot, he found only one elephant who was sleeping with her back towards her child. Garud ji immediately took the head of that child and came to Lord Shiva. Lord Shiva placed that head-on Lord Ganesha and donated his life to Lord Ganesha, and also gave him the boon that from today onwards, in any puja performed anywhere, Lord Ganesha will be worshiped first. Therefore, if we do any work, we should first worship Lord Ganesha, otherwise the worship is not successful.
After taking a bath in the morning, bring the Ganesh idol made of clay and sit lord Ganesh on the red seat on the Chokki.
Offer vermilion and Durva to Lord Ganesha and offer 21 laddus. Offer 5 of these laddus to Lord Ganesha and distribute the remaining laddus among the poor or Brahmins.
Lord Ganesha should be worshiped in the evening. After reading the story of Ganesh Chaturthi, Ganesh Chalisa, and Aarti, one should offer Arghya to the moon while keeping one’s gaze down.
On this day, the Siddhivinayak form of Lord Ganesha is worshiped and fasted.
Keep in mind that basil leaves should not be used in Ganesh puja. Except for Tulsi, all other leaves and flowers are dear to Lord Ganesha.
In Ganesh worship, there is a tradition of doing a parikrama of Lord Ganesha. According to tradition, three parikrama of Lord Ganesha is also done.

According to Ganesh Purana, it is believed that Lord Krishna was wrongly accused of stealing the Syamantaka gemstones. Then Narad Rishi said that Lord Krishna had seen the moon on Bhadrapada Shukla Chaturthi and was cursed. If a person accidentally sees the moon, he should make a crown by tying 21 Durvas in Moli and offering it to Lord Vinayak. This will free one from the evils of seeing the moon.
