Fasting on Amalaki Ekadashi is very fruitful in itself. On the first day of the Amalaki fast, the devotee should sleep on the night of Dashami while meditating on Lord Vishnu along with the Ekadashi fast. To ensure that this fast is completed successfully, please keep me under your protection. After that one should meditate on Lord Vishnu and chant the mantra. After worshiping God, the Amla tree should be worshiped with the worship material. First of all, clean the land around the tree and purify it with cow dung. Place Panch Pallava on it and then light the lamp. Shrikhand sandalwood should be applied on the Kalash and clothes should be worn. Finally, install the idol of Parashuram, the sixth incarnation of Shri Vishnu, on the Kalash and worship Parashuramji duly. Remember the Lord by reciting Bhagwat Katha and bhajan-kirtan at night. On the morning of Dwadashi, feed food to the Brahmin and give him Dakshina. Also, the Kalash along with the idol of Parashuram should be presented to the Brahmin.
In ancient times, a king named Chitrasen ruled. Ekadashi fast had great importance in his kingdom and all the people used to fast on Ekadashi. The king had great devotion towards Amalaki Ekadashi.
One day the king went far into the forest while hunting. Then some wild and hill bandits surrounded the king. After this, the bandits attacked the king with weapons. But by the grace of God, whatever weapons were fired at the king, they would turn into flowers.
Due to the large number of bandits, the king fell unconscious on the ground. Then a divine power appeared from the king’s body and disappeared after killing all the demons. When the king regained consciousness, he found all the demons dead. Seeing this the king was surprised who killed these bandits. Then a voice came from the sky – O king! All these demons have been killed due to the effect of your fasting on Amalaki Ekadashi. The Vaishnavi power of Amalaki Ekadashi generated from your body has killed them. After killing them, it again entered your body.
