Shiv Nadar was born in 1945 in Mulliyapozhi village in Thullukudi district, Tamil Nadu. His father was Sivasubramanya Nadar and his mother was Vamasundari Devi. His wife’s name is Kiran Nadar. In 1980, HCL made its first foray into the international market for IT hardware with the beginning of selling computers in Singapore. Nadar has launched HCL Avitas, a chain of clinics in association with John Hopkins Medicine International. In 2020, Shiv Nadar resigned from his role as chairman of HCL and his daughter Roshni Nadar succeeded him to become the first woman to chair a listed IT company. Currently, HCL is recognized as a pioneer of modern computing. The company begets annual revenues of over USD 10 billion with operations of over 169,000 professionals in 50 countries.
