Amavasya is an important day according to the Hindu calendar and rituals are performed on this day. On this day, the moon is not visible in the sky, hence it is also called lunar day or Amavasya. Also called Amavasya, it comes every month, hence there are 12 Amavasya days in a year. It is the day that marks the beginning of Shukla Paksha or the bright fortnight in the lunar month.
