Utpanna Ekadashi of Vrat Katha

On the day of Ekadashi, we perform fasting rituals to please Goddess Ekadashi. Ekadashi is considered one of the powers of Lord Vishnu. According to the ancient legend when the god Murasura was dealing with the demon, it became impossible for him to stop the ferocious demon. Troubled by the demon Murasura, all the gods and goddesses went to Lord Vishnu and asked for his help to get rid of Murasura. He struggled with this for many years. Murasura also followed him and proceeded to kill the sleeping Lord, then, Ekadashi was born to Lord Vishnu and he fought a fierce battle with Murasura, and Murasura’s head was severed. When Lord Vishnu came to know about this, he asked him to ask for a boon from Ekadashi. On this Ekadashi asked for three boons.

  • Devi Ekadashi will always be liked first and dearest to Lord Vishnu.
  • She will hold a supreme value of all Tithis (days) and will be capable of destroying the past sins of the person.

After this Lord Vishnu gave him all three boons.
