Shravana Purnima Vrat Katha

According to the legend, a king named Tungadhwaj ruled a city. Once the king got tired while hunting in the forest and sat under a banyan tree. There he saw that some people were worshiping God. The king was so engrossed in his greed that he neither listened to the story of Lord Satyanarayan nor paid obeisance to the Lord. The villagers came to him and respectfully gave him Prasad. But the king was so arrogant that he left without eating the prasad.

When the king reached his city, he saw that the king of another kingdom had attacked his kingdom and destroyed everything. After which he understood that all this was the reason for the anger of Lord Satyanarayan. He returned to the same place and asked for God’s offerings from the villagers. He was feeling very remorseful so he apologized for his mistake and accepted the prasad. Lord Satyanarayan forgave the king and returned everything as before. The king enjoyed royal pleasures for a long time and after his death he attained heaven.

According to the scriptures, a person who observes the fast of Lord Satyanarayan methodically and listens to the story gets all the happiness in the world, and all his wishes are fulfilled. He is always blessed by Goddess Lakshmi. That person never remains poor nor does he suffer from any kind of problem. A person who listens to the story of Lord Satyanarayan also attains Vaikuntha Dham after death.
