Rakhi Purnima Importance

On Rakhi Purnima, sisters offer prayers early in the morning and tie beautiful Rakhis on the wrists of their brothers, asking for their lifelong love, care and protection. Raksha Bandhan strengthens their bond and introduces them to the love they have for each other. According to astrologers and priests, it is believed that due to the inauspiciousness of Bhadra period, celebrating the festival of Rakhi should be avoided during this period. The best time to do these is during Aparahaan or Pardosh period on Rakhi Purnima.

Rakhi Purnima Puja Vidhi

On the day of Rakshabandhan, sisters tie Raksha-sutra i.e. Rakhi on the wrists of their brothers. They also wish for the longevity, prosperity and happiness of their brothers.

There is also an important story behind this mantra, which is often recited during Rakshabandhan puja. Once Dharmaraja Yudhishthir expressed his desire to hear such a story from Lord Shri Krishna which could provide relief from all troubles and problems.

Another method of celebrating Rakshabandhan is also famous. On this day women get ready for puja in the morning and hang gold on the walls of the house. After this it is worshiped with vermicelli, kheer and sweets. Then Rakhi thread is tied on the gold. Women who plant ears of wheat on the day of Nag Panchami keep that plant for worship. After tying Rakhi on their brothers’ wrists, they wear these earrings in their brothers’ ears.

The ruler of demons had hold all the three worlds and had declared oneself the king of Trilok. Then, being troubled by the demons, Devraj Indra took refuge in Guru Brihaspati and prayed for protection. Then the Raksha rituals were completed in the morning on Shravan Purnima.

In this Vidhan, Guru Brihaspati pronounced the above mantra; At the same time Indra and his wife Indrani also repeated this mantra one after the other. Indra’s wife Indrani filled the Raksha-sutra with power from all the Brahmins and tied it on the wrist of Indra’s right hand. With the powers obtained from this sutra, Indra defeated the demons and regained his lost kingdom.
