According to the legend, there lived a Brahmin named Dhaneshwar in a city. His wife’s name was Roopvati. The Brahmin and his wife earned their living by begging. Both of them had no children. One day his wife went to the city to beg for alms, but people called her barren and refused to give her alms. Due to which both of them became very worried due to not having children.

One day someone asked Brahmin’s wife Roopvati to worship Goddess Kali for 16 days to have a child. The Brahmin couple worshiped Goddess Kali as per the rituals for 16 days. Pleased with this, Mother Kali appeared and blessed the Brahmin’s wife with the happiness of a child. Also, Maa Kali asked the Brahmin couple to light a lamp on every full moon day, increase the number of lamps on every full moon day, and observe a fast on the full moon day. As per the instructions of Mother Mahakali, the Brahmin couple started fasting on the full moon day and lighting lamps.

After a few days, the Brahmin became pregnant. By the grace of Mother Kali, a son was born to a Brahmin and his wife. Both of them had named their son Devdas, but Devdas did not live long. Devdas grew up and went to Kashi to study with his maternal uncle. There such an accident happened that she got married by deception.

After some time, death came to take his life, but coincidentally that day was a full moon and the Brahmin couple had kept a fast for their son. Due to this even time could not harm him.
