According to Hindu belief, there are 2 Ekadashis in every month. In this way, there are 25 Ekadashi with two months in the whole year. Which occurs on the 11th day of Krishna and Shukla Paksha of every month. Every Ekadashi has great glory. Devotees worship Lord Vishnu on the day of Ekadashi. Devotees believe that by fasting on Ekadashi, Lord Vishnu is pleased and forgives all sins and bestows happiness and peace. For this reason, the Ekadashi fast is observed. Ekadashi of Shukla Paksha of Chaitra month is special in many ways. The Ekadashi of Shukla Paksha of Chaitra month is called Kamada Ekadashi. This is the first Ekadashi of Hindu Samvatsara. It is very fruitful, hence it is also called Falada Ekadashi, it is believed that by observing the fast of Kamada Ekadashi, the devotee can also get freedom from ghosts. On the eve of Kamada Ekadashi, devotees eat ‘Satvik’ food, which means simple and completely vegetarian food. People of the Hindu religion praise God by chanting mantras.

Chaitra Shukla Ekadashi is a holy day in the Hindu religion. By fasting on Chaitra Shukla Ekadashi one gets freedom from all sins. Kamada Ekadashi Vrat 2024 

The worship method of the Kamada Ekadashi fast which fulfills the wishes is as follows:

  • On this day, after taking a bath in the morning, take a pledge to fast and worship God.
  • Remember Lord Vishnu from time to time throughout the day and do Jagran near the place of worship at night.
  • The fast should be broken on the next day of Ekadashi i.e. Dwadashi.
  • Food and Dakshina are important to Brahmins in Ekadashi fast, hence on the day of Paran, feed food to Brahmins and send them off by giving them Dakshina. Take food only after this.

Kamada Ekadashi of Rituals

A day before Kamada Ekadashi, which is the tenth day of Krishna Paksha, one should brush one’s teeth thoroughly in the afternoon and have food at sunset.

  • On the morning of Kamada Ekadashi, a person should observe the fast properly. One should bathe in a river (which is considered the most purifying) or a lake and if both are not available, one should bathe in pond water.
  • While taking a bath, a person should apply mud on his body while praying to Mother Earth.
  • Prayer: O Ashvakrante! O Rathkrante! O Vishnukrante! Hey Vasundhara! Oh earth!
  • Translation: Oh Mother Earth! Please remove all my sins accumulated from previous births so that I can enter the abode of Supreme Lord Vishnu.
  • Worship Lord Govinda with full dedication and offer an excellent ‘Bhog’ (food to the Lord) along with flowers and other items of Prasad.
  • Light a lamp at home in honor of God
  • Chant or sing praises of Lord Vishnu throughout the day and be in the most blissful state during the fast.
  • Stay awake all night in full consciousness. If possible, play musical instruments throughout the night to please God.
  • The next morning one should give donations to the Brahmins and respectfully ask for their forgiveness for any transgression.
  • Those who observe a complete fast till the next day should pray – ‘O Pundarikaksh, O lotus-eyed Lord, now I will eat. Please shelter me.
  • After the prayers, the devotee should offer flowers and water at the lotus feet of Lord Vishnu and request the Lord for food by chanting the Ashtakshar Mantra three times. To attain the full merit of the fast, the devotee should drink the water offered to the Lord.
  • If the devotee wishes, Agni Yagya can be performed.

Kamada Ekadashi of Significance

  • The person observing fast on Kamada Ekadashi is not allowed to eat things like rice, moong dal, flour, and barley.
  • They can consume food items like milk, fruits, vegetables cheese, and dry fruits.
  • Non-vegetarian food is inappropriate on this day.
  • People end the fast in advance and Brahmins also donate grains and money.
  • Many people recite Krishna bhajans and other Vedic mantras to seek the blessings of Lord Krishna.
  • In our country, people organize yagya in the image of Lord Vishnu on this day.
  • Lord Rama, an incarnation of Lord Vishnu, belonged to the lineage of Raghu.
  • This day is considered to be the most influential day till salvation. People of the Hindu religion in India celebrate Kamada Ekadashi with full devotion and worship Lord Vishnu. We all are blessed by Lord Vishnu to live a happy and prosperous life.

Kamada Ekadashi of Vrat Katha

In ancient times, there was a beautiful city named Bhogipur in Nag Lok where golden palaces were built. A very dangerous snake used to live in that city. A snake named Pundarika used to rule there in those days. Apsaras, Gandharvas, and Kinnars all lived in that city. Lalita, a great Apsara, lived in the same city with her husband, a Gandharva named Lalit. There was no dearth of wealth, opulence, and glory in his house. Both of them loved each other.

One day Lalit was dancing and singing in the court of King Pundarika but his beloved wife Lalita was not with him. While dancing and singing he remembered his wife and his feet slowed down. His tongue began to waver. Just then, a snake god named Karkotak was present in the court of Pundarika. King Pundarika was enjoying himself with the snake god Karkotaka by ordering Lalit to sing.

Lalit was engrossed in singing. Then he remembered his wife and forgot. The serpent god caught Lalit’s mistake, after which King Pundarika cursed him to become a demon. As soon as he said this, he became a Gandharva demon. His appearance was very scary. When his wife Lalita came to know about this, she became very sad and started thinking in her mind that her husband was suffering a lot.

She started wandering in the forest following her husband. Then he saw a beautiful ashram where a sage was sitting. Lalita quickly reached there. By then the sage told Lalita about the Kamada Ekadashi fast. Following the advice of the sage, Lalita observed Kamada Ekadashi fast in his ashram, and with the benefits of the fast, she cured her husband. With the benefit of Kamada Ekadashi, Lalit was freed from his sins and became as beautiful as before.

According to Varaha Purana, by fasting on Kamada Ekadashi, even the most serious sins of a person are destroyed. It is believed that by observing this fast one gets the results of Ashwamedha Yagya. Fasting on Kamada Ekadashi is very fruitful. Lord Vasudev is worshiped on the day of Kamada Ekadashi. With the effect of this fast, all the wishes are fulfilled and sins are destroyed.
