Chhath Puja Story

According to the story, there was a king named Priyavrat. His wife’s name was Malini. Both of them had no children. The king and his wife were very sad about this. One day, with the desire to have a child, they got Putrayeshti Yagya performed by Maharishi Kashyap. As a result of this yagya, the queen became pregnant.

After nine months, when the time came to get the happiness of having a child, the queen got a dead son. The king was sad to know about this. In grief for the child, the king decided to commit suicide. But as the king tried to commit suicide, a beautiful goddess appeared in front of him.

The goddess told the king that I was Shasti Devi. I give the good fortune of a son to people. Apart from this, whoever worships me with true feelings, I fulfill all his wishes. If you worship me, I will give you a son. Impressed by the words of the goddess, the king followed her orders.

The king and his wife worshipped Goddess Shashti on the sixth day of Kartik Shukla with full rituals. As a result of this worship, they were blessed with a beautiful son. Since then, the holy festival of Chhath has been celebrated.

Ram And Sita Worshiped The Sun

According to a belief, after conquering Lanka, on the day of the establishment of Ram Rajya, Lord Ram, and Mata Sita fasted and worshipped the Sun God on Kartik Shukla Shashthi. On Saptami, they again performed the ritual at sunrise and received blessings from Sun God. This tradition is continuing to date.

Karna Started Worshipping The Sun

According to another belief, the Chhath festival started during the Mahabharata period. Suryaputra Karna was the first to start worshipping the Sun God. Karna was an ardent devotee of Lord Sun. He used to stand waist-deep in water for hours every day and offer Arghya to the Sun. It was due to the grace of the Sun that he became a great warrior. Even today this tradition of offering Arghya during Chhath is popular.

Pandavas Got Their Kingdom Back From The Chhath Festival

There is another story about the Chhath festival. According to this, when Pandavas lost their entire kingdom in gambling, Draupadi kept Chhath fast. Her wishes were fulfilled and Pandavas got their kingdom back. According to tradition, the relationship between Surya Dev and Chhathi Maiya is that of brother and sister. Therefore, worshipping Surya on the occasion of Chhath is considered fruitful.

Wrapping Up

Some materials are specially required for Chhath Puja. It is believed that the Chhath festival is not complete without these worship materials. The worship materials for Chhath Puja include a bamboo basket, coconut, sugarcane with leaves, rice, vermilion, incense, lamp, plate, lota, new clothes, coconut filled with water, green ginger plant, seasonal fruits, Kalash (clay or brass), kumkum, betel leaf, and betel nut.
Bhai Dooj Katha

Lord Surya Narayan’s wife is Chhaya. Lord Surya and Chhaya’s son and daughter are Yamraj and Yamuna. Yamuna Ji was very fond of her brother Yamraj. She kept requesting him repeatedly to come to her house for food. However, due to his busy schedule, Yamraj kept postponing his sister’s request. It was the day of Kartik Shukla Paksha, Yamuna ji invited her brother to come to her house for food and made him commit himself.

Yamraj thought that I was the one who took away lives. I must follow the good intentions with which my sister is inviting me. While coming to his sister’s house, Yamraj freed the creatures living in hell. Yamuna’s happiness knew no bounds on seeing Yamraj coming to her house. She took a bath, performed a puja, served food, and fed him. Pleased with the hospitality shown by Yamuna, Yamraj ordered his sister to seek a boon.

Yamuna said that brother, you should come to my house every year on this day. The sister who, like me, respects and applies tilak to her brother on this day, will not have to fear you. Yamraj said ‘Tathastu’ and gave Yamuna precious clothes and ornaments and left for Yamlok. From this day onwards, the tradition of the Bhai Dooj festival started. That is why on the day of Bhai Dooj, Lord Yamraj and Yamuna are worshipped.

Gujarati New Year 2025: Significance and Tradition

This day holds special significance for traders and businessmen as it marks the beginning of the financial year for them and hence, new ledger books are opened on this auspicious day. Enterprising people, who are mostly engaged in trade, celebrate their Bestu Varas with festivities, feasts, and revelry.

Govardhan Parvat is also worshipped on this day, as according to legends, Lord Krishna worshipped this mountain to save the people of Mathura city in Uttar Pradesh from heavy rains. Most of the people, who were farmers and shepherds, were taught by him that their dharma was towards the mountains and livestock that provided them with food and resources. Then people started worshipping cows and Govardhan Parvat.

But Lord Indra did not like this, and he vented his anger on the people. He rained in Gokul for seven consecutive days and seven nights, due to which the whole area got submerged. Then to give shelter and help the people, Krishna lifted the Govardhan mountain with his little finger. This made Indra realize his mistake. It is believed that Govardhan Puja continues and is followed even today.

Chopda Pujan

In Gujarati culture, opening new accounts and closing old ones is called Chopra.

Chopda Puja is a ritual to worship Goddess Lakshmi so that the coming year can be more prosperous and fruitful. Saraswati, the goddess of learning, is also worshipped on this day.

In this ritual, the words “Shubh” and “Labh” are written on the new ledger, which symbolizes auspiciousness and profit, respectively.

Bestu Varas Festival

Traditional customs and rituals are performed to welcome the New Year and bid goodbye to the past. It is a day to make wishes and cheer. Bestu Varas is a time to relive all the pain, suffering, and memories of the past year.

New Year in Gujarat is a time of celebration. Since the celebrations increase even more during Diwali, it is a joyous experience for all Gujaratis. Almost all Gujarati homes are decorated with colorful lights and adorned with flowers. On this day, people wear good clothes and visit temples with flowers and sweets. Everyone wishes each other a Happy New Year while worshiping the Lord. The grand Govardhan Puja is also performed in some temples in Gujarat.

A sumptuous meal at the end of the day reflects the festive spirit. Most Gujaratis eat heavy meals on this day. Thus, New Year in Gujarat reflects the true spirit of Indian tradition. The essence of Gujarati culture and religion can be felt in the New Year celebrations. Love, unity, and togetherness are the intangible assets of these celebrations.

Wrapping Up

It is believed that this day brings luck and benefits for the whole year. Gujarati New Year coincides with Govardhan Puja. Thus, the whole day is considered promising.

The festival of Deepavali is celebrated on the new moon day of the Kartik month. On this day, Lord Ganesha, Maa Saraswati, and Kuber ji are worshipped along with Goddess Lakshmi. It is believed that Goddess Lakshmi comes to visit the earth on the day of Diwali. In such a situation, people adopt various measures to please Goddess Lakshmi. Wherever the feet of Goddess Lakshmi fall, there is a shower of wealth and prosperity.

By the grace of Goddess Lakshmi, the goddess of wealth, there is never a shortage of money or other things in that house. Diwali is also known as Lakshmi Puja. So let us know when the festival of Diwali will be celebrated this year.

Diwali 2025 Date

According to the Panchang, Diwali in 2025 will be celebrated on 20th October. The Amavasya date of the Kartik month will start on 03:44 PM on 20th October and end on 05:54 PM on 21st October.

When is Diwali 2025

Diwali is celebrated on Kartik Krishna Paksha Amavasya Tithi. This time Amavasya Tithi is starting on the 31st at 3:22 in the afternoon. Amavasya Tithi will start on the 31st at 3:22 and will end on the 1st of November at 5:23 in the evening.

Due to this, Amavasya Tithi does not touch Pradosh and Nishith Kaal on the 1st. On the 31st it will be prevalent from Pradosh Kaal to Nishith Kaal. As per the scriptures, celebrating Diwali and worshipping Laxmi on 31st October will be very fruitful. Because it is best to celebrate Diwali only when the Amavasya Tithi remains from Pradosh to Nishith Kaal.

Diwali story

There are many stories regarding why Diwali is celebrated. The most famous belief is that when Lord Rama returned from exile, he was given a grand welcome in Ayodhya, and lamps of happiness were lit. Since then, this festival has been celebrated. But apart from this, there are many stories about which very few people know.

The Joy Of Shri Ram Returning From Exile

It is a story that almost every Indian knows. It is said that Kaikeyi, influenced by Manthra’s words, asked Dasharath to promise to send Rama to exile. After this, Shri Ram had to go into exile. When Lord Rama returned to Ayodhya after spending 14 years in exile, the people of the city gave him a grand welcome. Since then, Diwali has been celebrated.

Return Of Pandavas To Their Kingdom

During the Mahabharata period, the Kauravas, with the help of Shakuni, defeated the Pandavas in the game of chess and took away everything from them by deceit, and they had to leave the kingdom and go into exile for 13 years. On Kartik Amavasya, the 5 Pandavas returned to their kingdom after completing 13 years of exile. The people of the kingdom lit lamps to celebrate their return. It is believed that since then, Diwali has been celebrated on Kartik Amavasya.

Coronation of King Vikramaditya

King Vikramaditya was a great emperor of ancient India. He was an ideal king. He is known for his generosity and courage. It is said that he was crowned on Kartik Amavasya. Since then, the festival of Diwali has been celebrated in the memory of such a pious king.

Incarnation of Mother Lakshmi

According to the Hindi calendar, the festival of Diwali is celebrated on the new moon day of the month of Kartik. It is said that on this day, during the Samudra Manthan, Goddess Lakshmi incarnated. Therefore, along with lighting lamps in every house, we also worship Goddess Lakshmi.

Vadh of Narakasura

There is another big story behind celebrating the festival of Deepawali. It is said that on this day, Lord Krishna killed the demon Narakasura. Narakasura was the king of Pragjyotishpur at that time. He was so cruel that he snatched the earrings of Devmata Aditi. Devmata Aditi was a relative of Shri Krishna’s wife Satyabhama. With the help of Shri Krishna, Satyabhama killed Narakasura. This is also said to be a major reason for celebrating Diwali.

Importance of Diwali

On the day of Diwali, Lord Rama returned to Ayodhya after conquering Lanka. From this day onwards, Diwali is celebrated every year on Kartik Amavasya. Goddess Lakshmi and Lord Ganesha are worshipped on Diwali. Also, lamps are lit to celebrate the arrival of Lord Rama. The Diwali festival is celebrated with friends and family.

Diwali Remedies

According to astrology, yellow cowrie shells must be used in the Lakshmi Puja on Diwali because yellow cowrie shells are considered to be the symbol of Goddess Lakshmi. For this, on the day of Diwali, soak white cowries in saffron or turmeric solution and then tie them in a red cloth at the time of worship. Then, after Lakshmi Puja, keep the yellow cowries in a place of wealth, like a cupboard or safe. By doing this, wealth is attracted, and there is progress in jobs and business.

To ensure that the blessings of Goddess Lakshmi always remain on your family members, light a seven-faced ghee lamp during Lakshmi Puja. Do this on the day of Diwali. According to religious beliefs, lighting a ghee lamp with seven or nine wicks in front of Goddess Lakshmi brings good money and also leads to the economic progress of all the family members.

For progress in job and business, offer gram lentils to Goddess Lakshmi along with the worship material at the time of Lakshmi Puja on the night of Diwali. Then collect this lentil and offer it to the Peepal tree. By doing this, auspicious yogas of progress are created, and by the grace of Mata Lakshmi, there is never a shortage of wealth in life.

On the day of Diwali, fill a bronze or copper pot with water, put some Ashoka leaves in it, and place a coconut on its mouth. Then make a sign of the Swastika with Roli on the pot, tie a mauli, and keep it at the place of Lakshmi worship. By doing this, there is only auspiciousness in the house, and the family members’ progress and mutual love also remain.

Sugarcane is very dear to Mata Lakshmi, so bring a sugarcane on the morning of Diwali and offer it to the mother at the time of Lakshmi worship at night. Also, worship the Ashoka tree in the evening and light a lamp of ghee. By doing this, all the troubles are removed, and there is a possibility of wealth coming. Also, by doing this remedy, material comforts increase.

Wrapping Up

According to religious beliefs, on the night of Diwali, Goddess Lakshmi visits the earth and goes from house to house to bless her devotees. It is said in astrology that if some astrological measures are taken on the night of Diwali, then special blessings of Goddess Lakshmi are received, and there is no shortage of money throughout the year.

The month of Kartik has special significance in Hinduism. Naraka Chaturdashi falls just a day before Diwali. Narak Chaudas is also called Narak Chaturdashi and Kali Chaudas. In some places in India, Narak Chaudas is also known as Chhoti Diwali. On the day of Narak Chaturdashi, Yamraj is worshipped to get rid of the fear of death due to famine or an accident and for physical health.

Also, there is a tradition of performing Yam Tarpan and Deepdaan in the evening on this day. It is considered one of the important festivals of Hinduism. There are some interesting stories behind celebrating Narak Chaudas. It is believed that lighting lamps on this day pleases Yamraj and also relieves the fear of untimely death.

Naraka Chaturdashi

The festival of Choti Diwali is celebrated one day before Diwali. This Chhoti Diwali is known as Narak Chaturdashi. On Narak Chaturdashi, lamps are placed outside the house. This year, Narak Chaturdashi is on October 30.

Kali Chaudas 2025 Date

Kali Chaudas on Monday, October 20, 2025

Chaturdashi Tithi Begins – 01:52 PM on 19 October 2025

Chaturdashi Tithi Ends – 03:45 PM on 20 October 2025

Naraka Chaturdashi story

According to the mythological tale, Lord Krishna lived in Dwarika with his wives. One day, Devraj Indra came to Lord Krishna and said, O Krishna, the gods are suffering due to the atrocities of demon king Bhaumasur. Bhaumasur is also known as Narakasur. The cruel Bhaumasur has snatched Varun’s umbrella, Aditi’s earrings, and the gem from the gods and has become the king of the three worlds.

Bhaumasur has also kidnapped the daughters of many kings and common people of the earth and put them in prison. Please save these three worlds from that cruel demon.

After listening to Devraj Indra, Lord Krishna, along with his wife Satyabhama, rode on Garuda and reached Pragjyotashpur, where the cruel Bhaumasur lived. Lord Krishna first killed the demon named Mur, along with his 6 sons, with the help of his wife. On hearing the news of the killing of the demon Mur, Bhaumasur set out for the war with his army.

Bhaumasur was cursed that he would be killed by a woman. Therefore, Lord Krishna made his wife Satyabhama his charioteer, and at the end of the war, with the help of Satyabhama, he killed Bhaumasur. After this, Bhaumasur’s son Bhagdatta was given the boon of protection and made the king of Pragjyotish.

Kali Chaudas Significance

This day marks the end of the demon Narakasura, who terrorized heaven and earth. Lord Krishna, along with his wife Satyabhama, killed Narakasura and freed thousands of women imprisoned by the demon. It is believed that celebrating Naraka Chaturdashi eliminates negativity and evil from one’s life and brings light, prosperity, and happiness to homes.

The festival is also associated with personal purification. On this day, people wake up early, take a bath, and apply Ubtan, which is believed to remove impurities from the body and soul. This bath, known as abhyanga Snan, is considered auspicious and helps keep evil spirits away.

Kali Chaudas Puja Vidhi

Before worshipping Kali Chaudas, one should take a bath on Abhyang Snan i.e., Narak Chaturdashi, before sunrise by applying Ubtan on the body. This is considered necessary. After bathing, wear clean clothes, spread a cloth on a chawki, and place the idol or picture of Maa Kali. Then, after this, worship Maa Kali as per the rituals. During this, meditate on the mother and light a lamp in front of the mother. After this, offer Kumkum, turmeric, camphor, and coconut to Maa Kalika. Meditate on Maa Kali and invoke happiness in your life.

Wrapping Up

Maa Kali is known by many names like Kalika, Kaalratri etc. According to the Puranas, Maa Kali has killed many demons and freed her devotees from their wrath. Maa Lakshmi is worshipped on the Amavasya date of Diwali. Maa Kali is worshipped on Chhoti Diwali, a day before the big Diwali.
Dhanteras Story

The story associated with Dhanteras is that on the day of Kartik Krishna Trayodashi, Lord Vishnu broke one eye of the Guru of the demons, Shukracharya, for obstructing the work of the gods.

According to the story, to free the gods from the fear of King Bali, Lord Vishnu took the form of Vaman and reached the place of the Yagya of King Bali. Shukracharya recognized Lord Vishnu even in the form of Vaman and urged King Bali to refuse whatever Vaman asked for. Vaman is Lord Vishnu himself, who has come to snatch everything from you to help the gods.

Bali did not listen to Shukracharya. King Bali started taking a pledge by taking water from the kamandal to donate the three steps of land asked for by Lord Vaman. To stop Bali from donating, Shukracharya entered King Bali’s kamandal in a small form. This blocked the way for water to come out of the kamandal.

Lord Vaman understood Shukracharya’s trick. Lord Vaman placed the Kusha in his hand in the kamandal in such a way that one eye of Shukracharya burst. Shukracharya came out of the kamandal struggling.

After this, Bali took a vow to donate three steps of land. Then Lord Vaman measured the entire earth with one of his feet and the space with the second step. When there was no place for the third step, Bali placed his head at the feet of Lord Vaman. Bali lost everything in the donation.

In this way, the gods were freed from the fear of Bali, and the gods got many times more wealth than what Bali had snatched from them. Dhanteras festival is also celebrated on this occasion.

In ancient times, there was a city named Suvarnapur in India. Where a king named Devdani ruled. He had two queens named Sita and Geeta. Sita was fond of buffalo, and Geeta was fond of the cow. After a few days, Geeta’s cow gave birth to a beautiful calf. The calf and the cow started getting a lot of love from everyone. This made the king’s queen, Sita, and the buffalo jealous.

Out of jealousy, Sita cut the calf and buried it in the pile of wheat. After a while, when the king sat down to eat, it started raining meat and blood from the sky. The king’s plate got soaked in blood. Seeing this, the king got worried and he realized that someone had committed a big sin in his kingdom, for which the whole kingdom was going to be punished.

After praying to God, the king heard a voice from the sky, Rajan! Your queen has cut the newborn baby of the cow and buried it in the pile of wheat due to which this crisis has come in your kingdom. To overcome this crisis, you will have to worship the cow and calf on Govatsa Dwadashi. You will have to observe a fast on this day and eat only once a day. Remember that wheat should not be used in the food on this day, and neither should a knife be used.

According to the Akashvani (voice from the sky), the king, along with the queens, worshipped the mother cow and her calf, due to which the sins of the queen were destroyed. Also, due to the effect of the fast, her dead calf became alive again.

Vagh Baras Importance

The cow is a very sacred animal in Hindu culture and is revered as the holy mother, as she provides nourishment to every human being. On this day, women observe Govatsa Dwadashi for the happiness and long life of their children. It is also believed that childless couples who worship cows and observe fasts on this day will have children soon. Devotees abstain from eating any wheat products during this fast.

Vagh Baras Puja Vidhi

On the day of the Vagh Baras festival, cows are bathed with holy water. Then sindoor is applied to their foreheads. After that, they are decorated with flowers and beautiful clothes. Those who do not have cows around them make clay idols of a cow and calf and worship them on this day. Then, kumkum and turmeric are applied to these idols.

In the evening, Gaumata is worshipped, and Aarti is performed. On this day, the cow is fed various types of prasad like moong and wheat. After this, Lord Krishna is worshipped. It is believed that by worshipping Lord Vishnu and Shri Krishna on this day, all the sorrows of life go away. On this day, women observe a fast for the long life of their children. Also, they eat only once a day. On this day, the fasting people do not consume milk or curd.

Wrapping Up

On this day, women with sons observe fast throughout the day, worship the cattle, and also adorn them. Doing so is considered beneficial.

Dussehra is considered a major festival in Hinduism. Dussehra is celebrated as the victory of truth over untruth. The festival of Dussehra is celebrated the day after the end of the nine-day-long Sharadiya Navratri. According to the Hindu calendar, Dussehra, also known as Vijayadashami, is celebrated on the Dashami date of Shukla Paksha of the Ashwin month.

According to religious beliefs, two main reasons are given behind the festival of Dussehra. First, Lord Rama killed Ravana on this day, and Mother Durga killed Mahishasura in a 10-day war with the demon Mahishasura.

Dussehra 2025 Date and Muhurat

In the year 2025, the Dashami Tithi of Shukla Paksha of Ashwin month will start on October 02 at 09:13 AM and will end on October 03 at 09:34 AM. Therefore, according to Udayatithi, Dussehra will be celebrated on 2 October 2025 in the year 2025.

Dussehra Puja Vidhi

It is best to do Dussehra Puja in the afternoon. On this day, an Ashtadal Chakra is made with 8 lotus petals in the northeast corner of the house. After this, chant the Aparajitaya Namah mantra in the middle of the Ashtadal and worship Lord Ram along with Maa Durga. After this, install Mata Jaya on the right and Vijaya on the left. Now offer the puja material like roli, Akshat, flowers, etc. to the mother and offer Bhog. Also, do the Aarti of the mother and chant Jaikara.

At some places, 9 balls and 2 bowls are made from cow dung. Keep coins in one of these bowls and roli, rice, barley, and fruits in the other. After this, offer barley, bananas, radish, jaggery, etc. to the idol. If you are worshipping ledgers or weapons, then keep these things at the place of worship and apply roli and Akshat on them as well. After this, give donations as per your capacity and feed the poor and the needy. When Ravana Dahan takes place in the evening, give Shami leaves to your family members and then touch the feet of all the elders of the house and seek their blessings.

Importance of Dussehra

The festival of Dussehra is celebrated with great pomp and show in the country and the world. For 9 days of Sharadiya Navratri, nine different forms of Goddess Durga are worshipped with rituals. After the worship of the ninth form of Maa Durga on the ninth day of Sharadiya Navratri, the festival of Dussehra is celebrated with great pomp and show with the worship of Lord Rama on the next day, i.e., on the Dashami date of Shukla Paksha of Ashwin month.

Dussehra, which is also called Vijayadashami, is also celebrated as a day of weapon worship. Vijayadashami is considered to be a festival celebrated as a symbol of the victory of good over evil. It was on this day that Lord Rama killed Ravana. On the day of Dussehra, effigies of Ravana are burnt in many parts of the country.

Vijayadashami Story

Dussehra is mentioned in the Mahabharata as follows- On one occasion, Parvati wanted to know from Shiva about the practice of the Dussehra festival and its results, then Shiva said- “The rising of stars on Ashwin Shukla Dashami creates a period called Vijay, which is said to fulfill all wishes. The king who wants to win over the enemy should depart at this time.

On this very occasion, Shri Ram attacked Lanka and won. On this very date, Arjuna took down weapons from the Shami tree and wore them on his body.” When Parvati wanted to know about Arjuna wearing weapons, then Shiva said- ‘When the Pandavas lost in gambling, Duryodhan had put a condition that during the exile, they would have to live in the visible form for twelve years and in an unknown state for one year.

If they are found in the thirteenth year, then they will have to suffer the exile of twelve years again. For this reason, Arjuna kept his weapons on the Shami tree and took up a job with King Virata in disguise. Virata’s son, Uttarkumar, accompanied Arjuna to protect the cows, and Arjuna defeated his enemies by taking down his favorite weapons from the Shami tree.

It is worth mentioning that the Shami tree protected Arjuna’s weapons for a year. Apart from this, when Shri Ram was leaving to attack Lanka on the day of Vijayadashami, Shami had told him that he would be victorious. That is why Shami is worshipped during the Vijayakaal.

Wrapping Up

The festival of Dussehra or Vijayadashami is celebrated as the victory day of Lord Rama over Ravana. Very few people know that Vijayadashami is not only related to Lord Shri Ram but is also associated with the victory saga of the Mahabharata period, which Arjuna achieved during the exile of the Pandavas. If you also want to know about what things should be donated on the day of Dussehra, then you can take an online astrology consultation.

Tulsi Vivah is a very sacred and fruitful festival. On this day, the Tulsi plant is married to Shaligram (stone). This marriage is also celebrated like other marriages. New clothes are worn, the mandap is decorated, the rounds are taken, and a feast is also given.

The gods are asleep for four months, and during this time, only worship is done; no auspicious work is done. On the day of Dev Uthani, everyone wakes up, and the auspicious time also opens. After the gods wake up, the first auspicious work is Tulsi Vivah. Tulsi Vivah takes place on the next day of Kartik Ekadashi.

Tulsi Vivah 2025 Date

As per rituals, Tulsi Vivah refers to the age-old ritual of marrying the Tulsi plant with Lord Vishnu(Saligram). According to the traditional Hindu calendar, it is celebrated in the month of Kartik. Some communities perform Tulsi Vivah on the Ekadashi day that falls after Amavasya in the month of Kartik, and some communities perform it on the day of Dev Diwali or the Purnima day in the month of Kartik.

Tulsi Vivah 2025 – November 02, Sunday

Dwadashi Tithi Begins – November 02, 2025 at 07:31 am

Dwadashi Tithi Ends – November 03, 2025 at 05:07 am

Tulsi Vivah Puja

It is believed that for the devotee who performs Tulsi Vivah, there is never a shortage of food and money in the house. All obstacles are removed, and happiness prevails. The rituals of Tulsi Vivah are also almost like a normal marriage. In this too, pandals are set up, and feasts are given. Wedding songs are sung. Let us tell you what materials are needed for the puja and what the customs are.

Invite the people of the neighborhood and relatives to the wedding on this day. Everyone should get ready just like they get ready when there is a wedding ceremony in the house.

Place the Tulsi plant right in the middle of the courtyard or roof.

Decorate a sugarcane pavilion over the Tulsi.

Offer a red dupatta along with Suhaag materials on the Tulsi.

Keep Saligram Ji in the pot.

Apply turmeric soaked in milk on Tulsi and Saligram Ji.

Apply turmeric paste also on the sugarcane pavilion.

Offer sesame seeds to Saligram Ji

Keep vegetables, radishes, plums, and amla for offering.

After this, start the worship by praying to Lord Ganesha and then worship Tulsi by chanting Om Tulsiye Namah.

Take the names of all the gods and offer them incense sticks.

Take a coconut and offer it as a tilak in front of Tulsi Mata.

Take the idol of Lord Shaligram Ji in your hand and circumambulate the Tulsi Mata plant seven times. In this way, Tulsi Vivah and Tulsi Puja will be completed.

Tulsi and Shaligram

The Tulsi plant is considered holy by Hindus as it is believed to be an incarnation of Mahalakshmi, who took birth as Vrinda. Tulsi was married to the demon king Jalandhar. She prayed to Lord Vishnu to protect her demon husband, as a result of which none of the gods could harm him. However, at the request of other gods, Lord Vishnu took the form of Jalandhar and started living with the oblivious Tulsi.

When the truth came out after Jalandhar’s death, Vrinda cursed Lord Vishnu and turned him into stone (Saligram), and fell. The Tulsi plant emerged from her body. This is why Vishnu Puja is considered incomplete without Tulsi leaves.

Tulsi Vivah Story

It is said that many centuries ago, there was a demon named Jalandhar. He would always defeat the gods. He had spread cruelty everywhere. Behind his strength was his wife Vrinda, and her devotion to her husband. Troubled by Jalandhar, the gods appealed to Vishnu. Then, Vishnu destroyed the chastity of Jalandhar’s wife. As soon as her chastity was destroyed, Jalandhar Asur was killed in the war. Vrinda cursed Vishnu that you would now turn into stone. Vishnu said, O Vrinda! It is the result of your chastity that you will stay with me in the form of Tulsi. The man who marries you will attain the ultimate abode.

Tulsi Vivah Importance

Tulsi ji is very dear to Lord Vishnu. The house where Tulsi ji is worshipped never faces any shortage of wealth, and the bag is always filled with happiness. Tulsi Vivah is celebrated the next day of Kartik Ekadashi. It is believed that before this, all the gods and goddesses were asleep and woke up on Devuthani. Only after all the auspicious times open and Tulsi Vivah take place. It is believed that if someone wants to convey his heart to God, he can do so through Tulsi. God never ignores the words of Tulsi Maa.

With Tulsi Vivah, the festival season also begins. The auspicious times for marriages open. There is happiness everywhere. The Tulsi Vivah program is celebrated the most in Goa. There will be hardly any Hindu houses in Goa in which there is no Tulsi.

In the house where there is a problem in the marriage of a boy or a girl, they should get Tulsi Vivah done. By doing this, all the obstacles in marriage will be removed.

Those who do not have a daughter of their own must perform Tulsi Vivah and do Kanyadaan. By doing this, one gets the fruits of real Kanyadaan.

Wrapping Up

Tulsi Vivah Puja is performed by married women across India for the well-being of their husbands and family members. The Tulsi plant is revered in Hinduism, and Tulsi is considered to be an incarnation of Goddess Mahalakshmi, who was first born as ‘Vrinda’. Young women worship Goddess Lakshmi with full devotion to wish for marital happiness. Young, unmarried women also perform Tulsi Vivah rituals to get a good husband.
